The state of New Jersey knew they were not going to beat Nevada to the online gambling industry after Nevada lawmakers authorized online gambling earlier this year. So New Jersey lawmakers looked into the future and came up with a bill that will ensure the state is competitive on a national level.
On Monday, a New Jersey House panel approved a bill that will not only bring online gambling to residents in their own state, but also to gamblers all across the US. The bill will now head to the Senate for a vote that could shape the future of the US Internet gambling industry. 메이저사이트
Several states have already passed online gambling regulation laws this year, but New jersey’s legislation is the first that would allow for interstate gambling on the Internet. The catch for Atlantic City casinos, the beneficiaries of the new bill, is that the interstate gambling must be consistent with federal laws.
Currently the federal laws are not set up to address such gambling. It is highly regarded among legal experts that online gambling is legal within a state if the state provides its own laws on the issue. No state has challenged the federal law by opening an online casino serving multi-states.
The bill still has a ways to go before becoming law. The Senate must approve the legislation, and Governor Chris Christie must also sign off on the bill. Christie has already once vetoed an online gambling bill, but has said he would be open to approving a new bill if the proper protections are covered in the law.
Nevada regulators have started the process of collecting applications from gaming groups wishing to operate online casinos. Nevada has said that their goal is to have online casinos operational by the Spring of next year.
New Jersey has expanded their gaming industry several times over the past few years. The state is in the process of challenging a 1992 federal law prohibiting sports betting. Last year, New Jersey voters approved a measure to bring sports books to Atlantic City casinos.
