A confrontation between American League MVPs. Aaron Judge (31, New York Yankees) counterattacked Shohei Ohtani (29, LA Angels).
Judge and Ohtani started as the second hitter center fielder and the second designated hitter respectively in the second game between the ‘2023 Major League’ teams held at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, USA on the 20th (Korean time).
Last game (19th) Judge and Ohtani had their first match of the season. Ohtani played an active role with 1 hit in 3 at-bats (1 home run), 2 RBIs and 2 runs스포츠토토, including a home run, and laid the foundation for the team’s 5-2 victory.
Ohtani took care not only of his team victory but also of his individual performance. In the second round, the opposite result was obtained. Judge played a big role in front of Ohtani.
Judge showed off his presence from his first defense. After one shot in the top of the first inning, Ohtani jumped up and blocked the ball with his glove, then caught the ball with his bare hands and raised the count.
A good hit came after a good defense. In the bottom of the first inning, he hit a two-run homer off starter Griffin Canning at first base, giving the team a 2-0 lead. Judge blocked Ohtani’s home run in the first inning, and drew attention by directing a famous scene where he hit a home run.
Judge shone once more with his defense. In the top of the 8th inning, when the 2-2 was a tight match, he threw himself at Brandon Drury’s batted ball from 2nd out and 1st base and prevented an additional run.
The Yankees defeated the Angels 3-2 with a walk-off victory in the bottom of the 10th inning thanks to Judge’s Hobby and home run. He completely avenged his loss in the last game and recorded a season record of 11 wins and 7 losses.
The confrontation between Ohtani and Judge was hot even before the season. Ohtani won the American League MVP in the 2021 season and was aiming for a second straight victory, but last year he lost the title to Judge, who broke the record for most home runs in a season in the American League with 62 home runs (previous Roger Maris 61 home runs).
Since then, it has been reported through various media that Ohtani expressed regret over not winning the MVP, and a rivalry between Judge and Ohtani was created.
