“I wanted to repay the coaches’ trustㅋㅋㅋ벳.”
Anyang KGC led the series with 2 wins and 1 loss, winning 81-70 in the 3rd game of the 2022-23 SKT Adot Professional Basketball Championship against Seoul SK held at Jamsil Student Gymnasium on the 29th.
In addition to Oh Se-geun’s performance, KGC was able to win thanks to the performance of ‘Flying Gilas’ Lens Abando. He played for 33 minutes and 56 seconds and flew with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 2 blocked shots.
After the game, Abando said, “It feels good to win the second game in a row after losing the first game. But the series isn’t over yet. I will focus on the next match. It was really hard, but I am grateful to have Oh Se-geun, Park Ji-hoon, and (Omari) Spellman.”
Abando was strong against SK throughout the regular season. The championship game, which started with great expectations, was sluggish with 4 points in the first game. He changed his aggressiveness from the second game and eventually became a victory fairy for KGC.
Abando said, “The manager and coaches instructed us to actively receive the ball. So he tried to be as active as possible. I wanted to repay the trust they gave me,” he said.
Filipino players are often evaluated as having weak defense. Avan was not much different either. However, his concentrated defense in the championship game is obviously helping KGC a lot.
Abando said, “I get a lot of orders for the defensive part. He’s struggling a bit, but he’s trying to stay focused because he thinks a mistake could have a negative impact on the team. As a result, good defense is coming out.”
At the same time, he was confident, “I think the understanding of team defense has improved a lot compared to the beginning of the season.”
