A comedian in his 40s who verbally abused and assaulted a taxi driver who refused to give him a ride has been sentenced to prison.
On April 28, Choi Hae-il, chief judge of the Suwon District Court Criminal Division 4스포츠토토, sentenced Kim Mo, 43, to four months in prison for violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Certain Crimes (including assaulting a driver), assault, and insult.
Kim was accused of insulting the driver, saying, “What did XX say?” and “Get out of the car, XX,” after getting into a taxi on a road in Chaein-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province, last March.
He also threatened the taxi driver, who was in his 60s, by kicking the passenger seat.
Kim was reportedly trying to catch a taxi at the time and became angry when the taxi passed him, so he walked to where the taxi stopped, got in, and made the threats.
When Kim got into the taxi and protested the refusal, the taxi driver allegedly said, “I’m going home, so get off,” before committing the crime.
Kim is also accused of assaulting a man in his 50s, an employee of the company, by throwing rocks at him in front of his office in Chaein-gu, Yongin, in March 2022.
On the same day, in front of several people, he also insulted the employee, saying, “If you want to report it, do it XX.
“The defendant has been punished for the same crime several times before, and his guilt is heavy because he did not restrain himself during the period of incarceration,” the court said. “However, the sentence was set to reflect that he admitted the facts of the crime and showed a reflective attitude.”
Meanwhile, Kim was sentenced to one year in prison for fraud in June 2020 and released on parole in December of the same year.
